It was time for our yearly trek to Oak Glen last Saturday. We decided to take a morning off of "remodeling" to go pick apples and see the beautiful scenery. The first stop on the trip was the deer area where you can pay 25 cents and get a handful of hard corn to feed the deer. Mikayla thought it was the best thing in the world and so did this deer. He loved it so much that he bit any other deer that came near him to partake in the goodies. Of course, if you want to save your 25 cents, you can just have your kids pick up the discarded corn kernels all around the fence that the deer have missed.

On to the next fun adventure. OK, $4 for a pony ride is a little extravagant but we decided, since we weren't buying lunch, that we would let Mikayla have a pony ride for the money it would cost to buy a sandwich. She wanted a black one but a little boy beat her to the pony so she decided on this spotted one. It was a toss-up between this one and a darker one and she chose wisely. They all look like they're close to being "out of commission" since they have the energy of a turtle but this one had his head closer to the ground. That's "mommy" for "it won't kick my kid off of its back." Even the girl agreed that this pony had a better disposition than the first choice. She did really well by herself and loved her first ride on a horse.

Since he's too small to ride a horse, Tyler stood like a regular cowboy watching his sister enjoy the ride. It was too cute to see him, in his dirty blue jeans, leaning on the rail like a seasoned rancher enjoying the sights.

After those shops, we headed to lunch and the pumpkin patch where the kids posed for a shot with the pumpkins. We didn't buy one since we had already purchased our $2.50 pumpkins at Target (I know, where's the fun in that?) but we're on a budget, folks!

One of our last stops was Los Rios Farm where most people go to pick apples. First of all, the parking guy (who was probably 12) directed us down the longest driveway in the world that led us to a 1/4 mile hike to the farm down this "driveway" strewn with dead pears. Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful, but I'm carrying around an extra 20 pounds these days and it was a tough walk. Once we got there, it seemed like all of the tourists had chosen that time to pick apples and we had to give up the dream. It was either that or lose Tyler to all of the dirt mounds in the area. We drove to another picking place and decided to pick rasperries but by the time we got to the front of the line, they claimed that the rasperries had been picked out. Needless to say, we were a tad frustrated but we vowed to do it next year and I had words with them about letting us know BEFORE we stand in line for 20 minutes with 2 antsy toddlers.

All in all, it was a great day and I can't wait to go again. It was a good break from the cycle around here and the kids loved getting out and dirty.

Great fun! Next time we'll have to plan our visits to Oak Glen and meet up there!
Hang in there... only 60-some more days to go and you'll soon find more energy!!!
Believe me... chasing after 2 older children and a newborn is CRAZY- but worth every second!
Great pictures - I have to just tell you how neat it is for me to see Will as a dad! We hung out together at Biola and to see (and hear your comments on) how great he is as a hubby and dad, so cool!

Kelli,
Will remembers you well. Do you have a blog? We'd love to see pictures of your family too! Yes, Will is a wonderful father and hubby. And yes, I want to squish my kids too-especially Tyler and his cheeks. It's normal.. =)
