At around 1:30 (Mikayla's pick-up time) I was mixing cookie dough, oblivious of my obligation to, yes, that's right, pick up my child from kindergarten. I hurried into the car, left my wallet home, strapped in the kids, and drove the 2 minutes to school.
As I'm running up to the gate, I see Mikayla sitting under the "late parent" tree with her teacher and several other students. After she walks up to me, this was the conversation...
"I'm so sorry I'm late Mikayla!!" (thinking she'll be forever scarred with the fact that her mommy forgot her).
"No, Mommy, I want you to be late every day! I like sitting under that tree."
I guess my daughter is confident in my love for her- and that I won't ever forget her.
